Caring for our future. Nurturing them to nurture our environment.
Our philosophy
Our centre values its connection with the community as one of our strengths; this is reflected within our teaching team, who hold the children and whānau attending the centre, at the heart of our community culture.
We celebrate inclusiveness, we value diversity, and we respect the aspirations of all cultures, while honouring and supporting the articles and principles of Tiriti o Waitangi
Kaiako value te ao Māori, and the concept of ako, meaning to both teach and to learn. We recognise the knowledge that both teachers and tamariki bring to our learning interactions and acknowledge the way that new understandings can grow out of shared learning experiences.
Providing quality care and education for tamariki involves kaiako having respectful relationships with whānau and valuing that children’s learning begins at home.
Kaiako respect and support the aspirations and values of our centre whānau in understanding and nurturing the holistic needs of all tamariki.
Children are supported to develop and learn through positive guidance, and Aroha. Kaiako foster and scaffold social competence skills within all tamariki.
We understand our responsibility is to listen carefully, and understand deeply before we act, this ensures we achieve positive learning outcomes for all.
Kaiako value nature and the environment as a third teacher, tamariki are encouraged to become kaitiaki of our centre, through meaningful learning experiences. This promotes children to engage in the outdoors and care for our environment, in a meaningful and consistent way.
Tamariki are able to actively participate in our bush school learning excursions outside of the centre, and are empowered with knowledge to protect our environment. We value our connection with the outdoor environment and tamariki can actively participate in practices such as recycling, composting, and gardening to protect our resources for our future generations.
